Robert began racing in 1997 in the Irish Formula Vee Championship and competed in this series until 1999. In 2000 Robert mixed his racing commitments with a place as an instructor at the Mondello Park Racing School.
This was followed in 2001 with a move into Formula Rover where he competed until 2005. He has also raced in Formula Ford, Formula Renault and Renault Clio's.
In 2005 Robert competed in the highly competitive Asian Formula Three Championship. Formula Three is a training ground for the worlds professional drivers and always provides close racing. Most of the top international racing stars have at one time raced in F3.
Robert drove for JF3, a team based in the Philippines, run by Richard Joson, a former Asian F3 champion, racing a Dallara chassis and Toyota engines.
Outside of racing, Robert's interests include reading (particularly history), photography, music and travel. He's a skilled cook and is more than capable of assembling flat packed furniture, despite what you may have heard.
